Friday’s Photo of the Week (Kitchen Coal)

A collection of coal.

A collection of coal.

Sure, Santa dishes out coal for Christmas, and one year my mom was SO tempted to give coal to my brother. (He really was a lot an ass at times – Hi Ian! (He’ll never read this).)

In Suining, coal serves a different purpose, burnt heat to prepare the students’ meals.

Apparently, these kids eat a lot.

(See how tiny that normal sized wheelbarrow looks?)

  1. I remember as a child that we had a coal-burning black wrought-iron pot-bellied stove in the living room–my mother always complained about the dirt it created; but it was warm and wonderful.
